Chateau Yvonne Collection

Chateau Yvonne Collection

Located in the town of Parnay in Saumur, Chateau Yvonne has been surrounded by vineyards since the Middle Ages, when the monks at the Abbaye de Fontevraud brought their influence to the region. In 2007, Matthieu Vallée took over from Yvonne and Jean-François Lamunière and decided to keep the name Chateau Yvonne in homage to their previous excellent work.

Today, the domaine is composed of 3 hectares of chenin blanc and 8 hectares of cabernet franc, spread out over 28 small plots in three villages in Saumur, and is one of the most highly regarded in all of the Loire Valley.  The vineyards have been farmed organically (Ecocert certified) since 1997 and biodynamically since 2012.  Production is extremely low, averaging only 2,000 cases annually.

All vineyard work is done manually, and Matthieu makes the wines with as little manipulation as possible: native yeast fermentation, minimal SO2, slow malolactic fermentation, minimal racking, and bottling unfined and unfiltered.  The dominant soils here are limestone and tuffeau (a local limestone characterized by a chalky, sandy, fine-grained texture with ancient seafloor sediment at its base), but outcroppings of gravel and sandy clay give completely unique expressions of cabernet franc and chenin blanc.

Chateau Yvonne's wines offer exquisite texture and vivacity at a price far below its peers in Saumur
