Descendientes de J. Palacios was founded by Alvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo Perez back in 1998 with the goal of highlighting the vast potential of Bierzo based wines. Alvaro Palacios is no stranger to top-notch winemaking. He hails from the prestigious line of winemakers at Bodegas Palacios Remondo in Rioja, and after extensive time spent working alongside Christian Moueix at Petrus (Pomerol), Palacios finally returned to his native Spain to tap into the country’s many rich vineyard sites. Fruit for ‘Villa de Corullon’ comes from organically farmed vineyards rooted in slate soils. Juice is fermented spontaneously in wooden vats, followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in French oak barrels. The final wine is earthy and dark-fruited, marked by soil-driven notes of ripe wild berries, black cherry, crushed rocks, and baking spice.
